One in 68 Children has Autism
The Anita Smith Memorial Scholarship was created by QSAC after Anita's untimely death on May 24, 2000 as a part of the Wendy's Tragedy in Flushing. Prior to her death, Anita worked at QSAC as a therapy assistant helping children with autism.
The scholarship is intended to allow Anita's good will and determination to live on in perpetuity as each year a scholarship is given to a deserving student in her name.
The Anita Smith Memorial Scholarship of $1,000 is awarded to any individual who is a New York area resident and is pursuing a degree in a human services field (special education, psychology, sociology, etc). Applicants must be working for an agency that serves individuals with autism and be enrolled in a New York City area college program pursuing a degree as a teacher, therapist, or other human services specialist.
The 2016 scholarship application will be posted in late February 2016.
