Overnight Respite
Program Description:
The QSAC Overnight Respite program offers the opportunity for greater independence for participants while giving a weekend of relief to care givers. The Overnight Respite program typically takes place at a recreational facility such as a dude ranch. However, the service may take place in the participants home or in a mutually convenient location. The Overnight Respite program is open to all individuals who have a diagnosis of autism or pervasive developmental disorder.

After School Program
Program Description:
QSAC offers four After-School Programs that seek to provide therapeutic and behavior-oriented teaching and clinical treatment programs for children and adolescents with autism or pervasive developmental disorder. Through a variety of assessments and parental input an individualized program is developed for each student. Programs are implemented through the use of principles and procedures of applied behavior analysis including discrete trial and natural environment teaching. Programs are implemented by the Group Leader and Therapy Assistants. The After-School Programs operate Monday through Friday, from 2:45pm to 5:45pm on Public School days. Supervised transportation and a nutritious snack are provided to all students.

Parent Support Groups
Program Description:
QSAC’s Support Groups provide a forum for parents to share the successes, disappointments, and anxieties that arise from caring for a child with autism (offered in English and Spanish).

Aspergers Social Skills Group
Program Description:
QSAC provides a Social Skills Group for individuals on the autism spectrum, targeting those with high functioning autism and Asperger's syndrome. Individuals with autism exhibit the most profound deficits in socialization, peer interaction and typical communication, which can have a great impact on their success and overall progress. Participants must reside in Manhattan. The QSAC Social Skills Group will provide the participants with the communication, socialization, and interactve skills to thrive in various settings, similar to their typically developing peers.

Parent Training
Program Description:
The QSAC Parent Training program aims to provide caregivers with the tools necessary to improve the independence and quality of life of their loved one with autism or pervasive developmental disorder. The training program introduces parents and family members to various behavioral procedures that have proven successful in achieving behavior changes when applied appropriately to a diverse range of skills, including toilet training, communication and interpersonal behavior skills. The program offers families 12 weeks of service with a 1-hour session per week, and is open to families of individuals diagnosed with autism or pervasive developmental disorder.

Community Habilitation
Program Description:
The Community Habilitation program is primarily a skills training program designed to assist families who are caring for their disabled loved one at home. The goal of the Community Habilitation program is to enable individuals with autism or pervasive developmental disorder to develop the skills and behaviors necessary to be participating members of their home and community. Upon entering the Community Habilitation program, each participants strengths and needs are assessed and treatment plans are developed to enhance the overall functioning of the individual. Each treatment plan is designed and implemented according to the principles of Applied Behavior Analysis. The times and schedules of the Community Habilitation program are arranged individually for each consumer. All participants in the Community Habilitation program must have a diagnosis of autism or pervasive developmental disorder. Preschool
Program Description:
QSAC offers a center-based Preschool program which provides children between the ages of 3 and 5 with an appropriate education in the least restrictive of environment. We have class sizes of 6:1:3, 8:1:2 and 12:1:2. The "appropriateness" of each child's education is determined by the educational and behavioral goals that are outlined in each student's Individualized Education Program (IEP). The pre-school is a full day, 12-month program with small classrooms led by New York State Certified Special Education Teachers. All programmatic instruction at the pre-school is implemented according to the principles of Applied Behavior Analysis and related services, such as speech therapy, are also provided as outlined by each child's IEP. Referrals to the pre-school program are made on an individual basis with a coordinated effort between QSAC and the Board of Education's Committee on Preschool Special Education.

Day Habilitation
Program Description:
The QSAC Day Habilitation program is a person-centered program that helps develop consumer choice and the skills necessary for individuals to learn to become active and participating members of their own homes and communities. Each participant's individual functioning level is continually assessed and programs and goals are developed that suit every individual's needs. Participants in the Day Habilitation program work on targeted goals and behaviors such as adaptive living, communication and food preparation skills and the elimination of inappropriate behaviors (such as aggression). Part of each participant's day is spent in the community where participants develop a more productive role in society. The Day Habilitation program is open to individuals 21 years of age or over who are diagnosed with autism or pervasive developmental disorder. The program operates Monday through Friday, year round, between the hours of 8:30 AM to 2:30 PM. Supervised transportation to and from the program is provided.

Preschool Evaluation
Program Description:
The QSAC Preschool (CPSE) Evaluation Site is designed to offer comprehensive evaluations for Early Intervention children transitioning to CPSE or any preschool age child with a suspected delay in the areas of cognitive and educational development, behavior, speech, OT, and PT. The program is available to children referred by the New York City Department of Education. Service Description: Licensed and Certified Monolingual and Bilingual (Spanish) Evaluators for Speech, Psychology, Social Work, Occupational Therapy, Special Education, and Physical Therapy are available to evaluate children between the ages 2.9 and 5 years old. Location: The QSAC Preschool Evaluation site is located in Douglaston, however evaluations are conducted in the comfort of your home, day care, or any other mutually agreed upon location. Admission Criteria: The Preschool Evaluation Site provides evaluations for children suspected of having any type of disability or delay; not just autism. We encourage all Preschool evaluation referrals and offer assistance with the CPSE process.

Day School
Program Description:
QSAC's Day School program provides children 5 to 21 years of age with an appropriate education, implemented in the least restrictive environment. Each student in the QSAC Day School receives individualized programming that is designed and implemented in conjunction with the Committee on Special Education, the student's family, the student's school teacher, therapists, and the Director of the School. Each program is designed according to the principles of Applied Behavior Analysis. The QSAC Day School also provides related services and offers family members the opportunity to take part in Parent Training Workshops and Family Support Groups. Referrals for this program are made on an individual basis with a coordinated effort between QSAC and the Committee on Special Education. Currently, the QSAC Day School has 11 separate classrooms, which are comprised of 6 children, 1 teacher and 3 teacher assistants (6:1:3). The QSAC Day School operates 12 months per year, Monday through Friday between the hours of 8:30 AM – 2:30 PM.

Residential Services
Program Description:
QSAC Residential programs feature both Individualized Residential Alternatives and Intermediate Care Facilities that offer home environments that foster independence, community integration, individualization and productivity. Each individual residing in a QSAC residence is provided with opportunities to participate in meaningful adult roles and develop social relationships while at the same time emphasizing individual choice. Each resident enjoys various recreational and social activities on a regular basis. Each resident is also involved in every facet of the home environment, including cooking their own meals, shopping for food and household supplies, and doing regular household chores. The goal of QSAC's residential programs is to create a nurturing environment that promotes personal growth and a sense of dignity in each of our residents.

Early Intervention
Program Description:
The QSAC Early Intervention program is designed to address the behavioral and educational goals of families as outlined in their child’s Individualized Family Service Plan. The program is open to all children referred by the New York City Early Intervention Department and classified with one of the five Pervasive Developmental Disorders. Services are designed for children from birth to three years of age and are generally implemented according to the principles of applied behavior analysis. QSAC’s specially trained therapists work one on one with each child in the program. Early Intervention services include initial and ongoing service coordination, special instruction, parent/sibling support groups and parent support groups. Services are typically provided in the families’ home from Monday through Friday, however, weekends are available if needed.

Respite at Home
Program Description:
The QSAC In-Home Respite program seeks to provide scheduled care to individuals with autism or pervasive developmental disorder in their own homes. The program serves a dual purpose as it provides participants with opportunities to develop greater independence and dignity, while offering caregivers a break from their daily responsibilities. Each family participating in the In-Home Respite program is offered one 4-hour respite per week. Families can request day or evening, weekday or weekend respites.

Emergency Respite Fund
Program Description:
QSAC has funds available to assist families living in Queens to pay for emergency respite for their disabled loved ones in times of crisis. The Emergency Respite Fund is designed to assist families in coping with unexpected family illnesses, pregnancies, deaths, and/or extreme emotional stresses.

Saturday Recreation
Program Description:
QSAC's Saturday Recreation Program offers therapeutic recreation, structured activities, community outings and teaches functional skills. We have highly skilled therapists that use the principles of Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA) to teach the participants communication skills, ADL skills, and appropriate socialization. QSAC provides supervised transportation to the program and home.

Family Reimbursement
Program Description:
The QSAC Family Reimbursement program allocates funds to families for the reimbursement of goods and services, not covered under any existing benefits or entitlements. The goal of the program is to lighten the financial burden of families, while at the same time increasing the quality of life of individuals with autism or pervasive developmental disorder. The Family Reimbursement program is open to all individuals who are diagnosed with autism or pervasive developmental disorder.

School Holiday Respite
Program Description:
The QSAC School Holiday In-Home Respite program seeks to provide scheduled care to families caring for a disabled loved-one. The program also strives to enhance the independence of its participants by providing socialization and learning experiences either in the home or local community.
