Paul has not shaved his mustache in 35 years. He was recently challenged by his children to shave off his mustache as a fundraiser to benefit Quality Services for the Autism Community. If Paul can raise $35,000 by the end of the year, we will celebrate with an evening of wine, cheese and ‘stache shaving!
The event will take place at the Redken Saloon Salon located at 36-17 30th Avenue Astoria, NY 11101, on Friday, December 30, 2011 at 6pm.
Paul Halvatzis, a local Queens businessman, has accepted a challenge from his children, including his autistic son, to shave his 35 year old mustache off for charity. And thus, the campaign has begun!
Halvatzis, a civic leader in Astoria, has been a board member of the Astoria Civic Association for over 20 years, past president of the Astoria/LIC Kiwanis Club for 25 years, and a board member of the 30th Ave. Merchants Association. He also serves as Vice President on the Board of Directors of Quality Services for the Autism Community (QSAC). QSAC is an award-winning nonprofit providing educational, residential, therapeutic and family support services to the autism community throughout the New York Metropolitan area. If QSAC, can raise $35,000 by the end of this year, Mr. Halvatzis will shave the 'stache.
The momentous occasion will take place at an area salon in December 2011.
Founded in 1978 by a group of parents confronting inappropriate and limited service options for their children with autism, QSAC has been heavily impacted by government funding cuts and decreased contributions due to the sluggish economy. "Paul has had his mustache longer than QSAC has been in existence,” said Gary Maffei, QSAC Executive Director. “We are thrilled to be working with him on this innovative fundraiser to bring much needed resources that will both improve and expand our services to those most in need across New York."
