Training Curriculum on Aging - Train DSPs to work with Aging Adults with Autism and other Intellectual & Developmental Disabilities (I/DD)
QSAC has developed a training curriculum, which includes seven substantive modules covering key areas such as aging and autism, medical considerations, dignity and respect, environmental design, activities of daily living, leisure skill development, self-advocacy, and crisis management. This curriculum is designed to strengthen the capacity of direct support professionals (DSPs) and their supervisors to meet the evolving needs of aging individuals with autism and other intellectual and developmental disabilities (I/DD). The curriculum is grounded in best practices and designed for both in-person and online delivery using a Behavior Skills Training (BST) model.
Instructional Materials
PowerPoint presentations with narration, printable handouts, pre/post knowledge checks, hands on training protocols, and case study prompts have been developed for the majority of modules. These materials are designed for both live and asynchronous instruction.

Leisure Skills Assessment Tool
A customized tool to assess individual leisure preferences and functional skills is in active development. This tool will be piloted as part of the training and is designed to support person-centered planning and meaningful engagement.

Train-The-Trainer
We have partnered with agencies and professional associations (e.g., Interagency Council, Queens Council on Developmental Disabilities) for current and future outreach and collaboration. Technical Assistance can be provided to outside organizations that are implementing the curriculum. A Staff Trainer can go onsite to observe providers training their staff and offer feedback as needed. The Technical Assistance will be fee based and scaled based on the number of hours and level of support required.
